The second day of San Fermin and the second run.

Murmur Study

Murmur Study is an installation that examines the rise of micro-messaging technologies such as Twitter and Facebook’s status update. One might describe these messages as a kind of digital small talk. But unlike water-cooler conversations, these fleeting thoughts are accumulated, archived and digitally-indexed by corporations. While the future of these archives remains to be seen, the sheer volume of publicly accessible personal — often emotional — expression should give us pause.

This installation consists of 30 thermal printers that continuously monitor Twitter for new messages containing variations on common emotional utterances. Messages containing hundreds of variations on words such as argh, meh, grrrr, oooo, ewww, and hmph, are printed as an endless waterfall of text accumulating in tangled piles below.

Right now this is my new fav. installation. So insightfull, simple and poignant. Completely relevant in todays time as well...good job :)

San Fermin 7/7/09

So today is the birth of my daughter and also the first day of the encierros (running of the bulls) at the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona. Over 1,000,000 people go to San Fermin every year to party, lose their minds and run with the bulls. I got to go in 2000 and it was like mardi gras except with bulls. San Fermin was martyred by being dragged through the streets by bulls. The run today went well with only a few injuries, the bulls looked solid im a fan of the limosina (the red bull) he looked like a death bringer. Viva San Fermin.

design equals record player

i have had recent internal debates about the new modern world of design. i feel that it is lazy and contrived....but this is pretty slick to say the least....im guessing that im still formulating an opinion. you can’t help but be impressed by this sleek and super simple design by designer Charles Pyott. This portable vinyl player is called “Linos” and is so much more modern than any vinyl player I think I’ve ever seen. It conserves space, is muchly mobile and looks very, very cool. You load the record to the lower spindle element, lock it into place and push power. It then releases the tonearm and spins up the record. You can hook it up through your computer’s USB port for sound (and power), or use the USB power adapter with standard stereo jack output. The diagram explains it better… Et voila, mes amis!

fainting goats

Thanks to Dan for the info on the fainting goats. i can see how these guys along with a case of beer can provide hours of outdoor fun.

And of course a proper follow up.
