Killin the Masses

Jesus these guys are killin peeps across the globe. They are on the cover of BPM and good for them. They gig all the time all around the world and people are losing their minds when they play. A local DJ (and a great one at that) her name is Moxy got to play with them in France and she said they Kilt the decks and were nice dudes. So ups to them.

Haka

I love the Haka dance the new zealand rugby team, the all blacks, does the haka before they start the match. I think im going to start doind the haka in the mornings before i go to work...just to get my blood moving. The Haka isnt necessarily a war dance but i'm pretty sure the all blacks are doing the peruperu haka to invoke the god of war. I need to watch this full match i'm sure the game was ugly.

Click languages

Click languages are amazing. Language development and speach pathology in general is really interesting as far as social observation goes and in regards to developing cultural identity. Thanks Wiki for letting me bite off some info.

Clicks are speech sounds such as English tsk! tsk! used to express disapproval, or the tchick! used to spur on a horse. In many languages of southern Africa, and in three languages of East Africa, they are ordinary consonants, found for example in the name of the language Xhosa. Clicks are best known in the West through the 1980 film The Gods Must Be Crazy. In 2003 clicks were in the news with an announcement that the original human language may have had clicks, but most linguists consider that to be utter speculation.

Technically, clicks are obstruents articulated with two closures (points of contact) in the mouth, one forward and one at the back. The pocket of air enclosed between is rarefied by a sucking action of the tongue. (That is, clicks have a velaric/lingual ingressive airstream mechanism.) The forward closure is then released, producing what may be the loudest consonants in the language, although in some languages such as Hadza, clicks can be more subtle and may even be mistaken for ejective stops.

Lino Tagliapietra

I got to meet this guy a few years ago at Hawk Gallery for one of his opening exhibits. He is a really down to earth nice guy who is extremely talented and really technical at his skill of glass blowing. In my humble opinion one the best glass blowers in the world right now. It was great meeting a master and someone who is a cool dude as well. just a nice old guy with skill ya know.

ENVY

These guys rule, i got to see them when they played at the high five and they are cool dudes and just ripped the stage. I dont know what they sing about but at the risk of sounding cheeseball i felt it. Really passionate hardcore that pulls at your heartstrings that really isnt being done in any other band at the moment. Cant wait till they come back to ohio.

M.I.A.

You know i've always liked this song. And it's remixability, some of the horn tracks are kinda tacky and the video itself is trying too hard at times. But the track is always fun at a club.

Frank Gehry

Recently I've become interested in the works of architect Frank Gehry primarily his work in Bilbao. I was watching a series on WOSU called Spain on the road again. Its a pretty interesting and food focused show that travels all over Spain experiencing the country gastronomically, yets its pretty holistic in its documentary style of filming the show. They talk a lot about the art, culture and lifestyle of each region of Spain then move onto the food. In one episode they were in Bilbao Spain, which is in the northeastern part of Spain. There is a Guggenheim modern art museum there that is amazing. Both the structure itself ,conceived by Gehry, and then what is contained within its walls. Then out in the sticks of Bilbao, Gehry designed another building, this time a hotel called Hotel Marque de Riscal, which again is crazy beautiful. Here are some pics.

Garrrrrrridge

So I was talking to 'this just in' a few weeks ago and i mentioned that we need some British Garage in town. He told me that he is working on starting a night where it's all brit garage and drum and bass. SWEEEEEET! Can't wait I havent listened to good D&B in a long time and I'm a big sucker for a rippin' bassline via some English GARRRRRRIDGE! Here is one of my fav. speed tracks, propa.

Clutch

I got to go see Clutch at the newport last week, thanks to paul for the tix he won. I've liked them for years but wasnt really sold on them, the studio stuff is a solid jammy metal mashup. But everyone has always said that they are way better live. We got there right at they took the stage and right away I noticed that everyone was really nice. Much to my surprise, every rock and/or metal show ive been to has a peppering of assholes. It was a sold out show and I jumped in the pit and mixed it up for the entire set, everyone was abiding by pit etiquette as well which is always good. Had a fantastic time, clutch tore it up, they are great live. There was a ton of beards...like metal beards....dude.

Where it's at

This song is fantastic ,Gil Scott Heron was amazing. This track totally captures the feeling of that era and scene. This is one of my favorite songs.
